Cle Elum, Wash. – Cle Elum City Councilmember Cassidy Buechle-Curtis proudly announces her campaign to retain her council position. After a brief tenure on the Cle Elum Planning and Historic Preservation Commissions, Buechle-Curtis was unanimously appointed to Position 1 in January 2025, following the retirement of Councilmember John Glondo.

Since her appointment, Buechle-Curtis has made a strong start by being appointed to the KITTCOM Administrative Board, the Kittitas County Homelessness & Affordable Housing Committee, serving as the council liaison to the Planning Commission, and chairing the city’s Public Safety & Health Committee. She is also working on completing her Certificate of Municipal Leadership through the Association of Washington Cities.

“I am committed to servant leadership—leading for those affected,” said Buechle-Curtis. “My goal is to preserve our unique culture rooted in local history, encourage community and economic vitality—particularly workforce housing, and build partnerships that enhance our community.”

Former Mayor Gary Berndt strongly endorses Buechle-Curtis: “Cassidy has my full support and endorsement for Cle Elum City Council. She brings integrity, thoughtfulness, tenacity, critical thinking, as well as a focus on our city’s future. She has taken the initiative to participate in several outside Council committees in her time as Councilor to learn as much as possible for our rapidly growing community.”

In addition to her council duties, Buechle-Curtis works in Human Resources in the construction industry and is a member of the Rotary Club of Upper Kittitas County. She is also working on completing her Certificate of Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities.

“It’s an honor to serve our community on the city council. While our city faces significant challenges, I know we will emerge stronger and more resilient. I’m committed to being accessible, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at (509) 731-3440 or Cassidy@CassidyForCleElum.com. I look forward to hearing directly from voters on their doorsteps and at events over the coming months,” Buechle-Curtis concluded.

“I’m drawn to the ability to have an impact and continue to participate in the success of our city,” Buechle-Curtis said. “Cle Elum is a really place to me. I came here to find home and I have found home here.”

Buechle-Curtis is replacing Councilmember John Glondo, who stepped down for medical reasons after serving Cle Elum and South Cle Elum for more than 20 years.

Buechle-Curtis is a graduate of Central Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in IT and Administrative Management. She has been employed with McKinstry Co. since March 2020 and is currently working in human resources.

In her application, she said that she would “bring to the city and council a servant leadership approach with a balanced and thoughtful outlook on decision making.”
